Rui Zhang of our School of Geosciences received an IMAGE 2023 Top Presentation Award at the recent International Meeting for Applied Geoscience & Energy in Houston. His presentation was one of two presentations that received the award for best oral paper.

The paper titled “Direct S-wave seismic data interpretation for channel sand reservoir at Sanhu area, West China” introduced an innovative technology to produce much clearer subsurface structure by using S-wave seismic survey than that produced by using conventional P-wave seismic data with application at west China. The interpretation of the S-wave seismic data help to map out channel structures that was confirmed by drilling information. Zhang's coauthors are Z. Deng and Y. Wang of BGP Inc.

Zhang’s research is focusing on the development of the innovative geophysical techniques to serve the energy transition, including carbon capture and storage, geothermal and hydrogen, etc.
