Geology students win Gulf Coast section of the Imperial Barrel Award competition

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette School of Geosciences won the 2018 Gulf Coast section of the Imperial Barrel Award (IBA) competition. The American Association of Petroleum Geologist (AAPG) Imperial Barrel Award Program is an annual prospective basin evaluation competition for geoscience graduate students from universities around the world. During eight weeks, the IBA teams analyze a real dataset (geology, geophysics, land, production infrastructure, and other relevant materials) that they have to present during a 25 minutes presentation in front of a panel of expert at the regional competition, held at the Anadarko headquarters in the Woodlands (TX). The judges select the winning team on the basis of the technical quality, clarity and originality of presentation. This year, the Gulf Coast section included teams from the University of New Orleans (2nd place), Auburn University, Tulane University, the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Texas at San Antonio, the University of Houston, Rice University, the University of Alabama, Texas A & M, Stephen F. Austin State University.
The UL Lafayette IBA team will now move on to the world competition held during the AAPG Annual Convention and Exhibition in Salt Lake City, on May 19th. Wish them luck!
