Faculty Spotlight: Hao Zheng

Hao Zheng, PhD, joined the School of Computing and Informatics as an assistant professor in August 2024. His research focuses on the intersection of machine learning and biomedical data analytics. Dr. Zheng received his PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 2022 and his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and Information Science from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2016. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Pennsylvania before joining the faculty at UL Lafayette.

The Intelligent Biomedical Data Analytics Lab led by Dr. Zheng works on both methodological development and real-world biomedical applications. Specifically, his current research interests lie in four main areas: First, developing state-of-the-art computer vision algorithms for various biomedical image analysis tasks, including registration, segmentation, classification, synthesis, and imaging. Second, devising machine learning methods for analyzing multi-modal biomedical data. Third, designing data-efficient machine learning frameworks to reduce the human effort required for training and adapting deep learning models. Fourth, enhancing model robustness and trustworthiness to achieve reliable medical AI systems. Dr. Zheng's overall goal is to democratize AI, empowering clinical applications in disease diagnosis and understanding while advancing scientific research for new biological discoveries.
