Faculty Spotlight: Shuvalaxmi Dass

Shuvalaxmi (Shuva) Dass, PhD joined the School of Computing and Informatics at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette as an assistant professor in August 2023. She teaches cybersecurity courses, and her research interests lies in studying application of AI in building game-based solutions in solving cybersecurity problems. Dr. Dass grew up in New Delhi, capital of India where she received her BS in Computer Science and MS in software engineering from Gautam Budha University in 2015 and 2017, respectively. She academically secured an overall 5th rank in that university. During this time, she also held internship positions in IIT-Delhi as part of Summer Research Fellowship (SRF) program in 2014. She then moved to the United States in August 2017 to pursue her PhD in Computer Science (AI and cybersecurity focus) at Texas Tech University where she was received the prestigious Graduate Recruitment AT&T Fellowship award to support her doctoral degree work for up to four years. She received her PhD in June 2021. Her most recent position was as an assistant professor at University of Nebraska at Kearney starting in August 2021. She has published in top IEEE and ACM conferences such as COMPSAC, SAC, and Big Data. She is a recipient of 2019 CRA-W Grad Cohort Workshop for Women Scholarship. Recently, she became an EC-Council Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH).

Dr. Dass is introducing her new lab called the Gascp! (Game-based AI solutions to solve cybersecurity problems) Lab: a visionary initiative at the intersection of AI and cybersecurity. With a fusion of AI and evolutionary algorithms, it pioneers defensive strategies, safeguarding software from threats. This lab will strongly support innovative research ideas spanning across various AI and cybersecurity avenues along with ideas pertaining to reimagining cybersecurity education for societal advancement.
