Healthy Streams, Healthy Coasts REU Poster Presentations
Mon, 08/02/2021 - 11:23amOn Friday, 30 July 2021, 13 students from colleges and universities around the country presented posters of the independent research they conducted as part of the Healthy Streams, Healthy Coasts Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program at UL Lafayette. These students used acoustics to study sperm whale populations in the Gulf of Mexico, quantified differences in biodiversity and biogeochemistry in assimilation versus control wetlands, and tested hypotheses around isotopic signatures of hurricanes in tree rings, among other projects! Many thanks to the mentors in biology, geosciences, physics, and civil engineering who worked with them this summer and to the UL Lafayette community who helped provide professional development training and resources while they were here. While we are sad to see the students go, we are so impressed by all they accomplished and cannot wait to see what they do next! Funding was provided by a grant from the National Science Foundation to Dr. Beth Stauffer from our Department of Biology. You may also want to visit the HSHCREU facebook page.
