Mohsen Amini Salehi of our School of Computing and Informatics has been awarded a three year grant with total funding of $499,650 shared with researchers at the University of Southern Carolina from the National Science Foundation, SmartSight: an AI-Based Computing Platform to Assist Blind and Visually Impaired People.

SmartSight is a platform that combines the computing ability of the edge-to-cloud continuum with Artificial Intelligence methods to enable ambient perception for blind and visually impaired people, thereby improving their quality of life and social inclusion. SmartSight operates based on smart glasses and provides real-time perception for its user by efficiently deploying machine learning and approximate computing methods.
