Faculty Spotlight: Sheng Chen

Sheng Chen, PhD joined the Center for Advanced Computer Studies in the School of Computing and Informatics at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette as an Assistant Professor in August 2015. He received his PhD in Programming Languages from Oregon State University in 2015, his ME in Computer Science and Technology from Xidian University in 2008, and his BE in Automation and Information Engineering from Xian University of Technology in 2005.

Dr. Chen's research interests are in programming languages and software engineering with focuses on type systems, static analyses, functional programming, and software product lines. The goal of his research is to improve programming productivity by increasing the expressiveness, precision, and efficiency of type systems and static analyses. He is also investigating a computational model of variational computing as a basis for accelerating computations through reuse.
